I love the show and so I bought the book. The book has lots of stories about real dogs he's trained over the years and it goes into great detail about training methods. Gives a lot of options depending on whether you have a small dog or large dog, which is a plus and not something I'd seen in other dog training info. It is a lot of reading. It's not just a simple picture book with brief instructions. He goes into great detail, which is good, but it does require a lot of reading time to get thru.My biggest complaint is that most of his sollutions require the purchase of some kind of dog training equipment. Everything from a clicker, to a shake can, to a leading lure, to certain types of collars, harnesses and leashes. Frankly, I just want to train my puppy in basic commands and do away with a few annoying bad habits (jumping, and biting hands) I don't want to have to gear up like a professional dog trainer and buy a bunch of stuff that I won't need in a few weeks time. If I have to buy all this gear to properly train my dog, I will just enroll him for professional dog training and be done with it.So keep in mind, these techniques are good and will no doubt work, IF you have the time, the commitment and are willing to invest in training equipment. This book is well written, really easy to read and has a lot of great insight into different dogs' personalities and behavior. Unfortunately, I have not read the whole book, because my Husky took a special interest in it, before I had a chance to finish it.
